We were in Madrid this weekend for the IBJJF Madrid Open. Tough brackets in both Gi and No-Gi; the lads put in a proper shift and came home with a stack of medals.
Mike Reay (Black Belt): Gold in No-Gi; multiple podium finishes
Gi (Black Belt Lightweight) – Bronze
- Bronze medal
- 1 submission win
- Lost the semi-final by a single advantage
Gi (Open Weight) – Bronze
- Bronze medal
- Submission win
- Lost the semi-final on points
No-Gi – Gold
- Gold medal
- Won with a fast submission
No-Gi (Open Weight) – Bronze
- Bronze medal
- Lost the semi-final by a single advantage
At black belt, that’s how it goes; the margins are tiny. Strong wins, clean submissions, and a No-Gi title is a solid weekend.
C-Jay Munro (Juvenile Blue Belt): double bronze in Gi; double silver in No-Gi
Gi – Double Bronze
- Double bronze
- Very close matches throughout the bracket
No-Gi – Double Silver
- Double silver
- Great wins on the way to both finals
- Just missed out in the final of both his division and the open weight
That’s a big performance at juvenile blue belt; loads of experience gained and plenty to build on.
Back to work
Proud of the team for getting out there and competing. We’ll take the wins, learn from the close decisions, and get straight back to training.
